Jeff Bullock moved from Bloomington, Indiana to Orlando
in the Summer of 1999. He had just completed his M.A. in Chinese at
IU, and had been back in the States for only a year after a year-long
trip to Taiwan. He was ready for some Rock music in his life, as I was
too. He moved into a garage apartment a couple of blocks away from our
mutual friend and collaborator, Jason Libs (aka JSUN),
in the Lake Eola Historic District. I also moved into a garage apartment
couple of blocks away. By Autumn, Jeff began building a PC based recording
studio in his apartment, most of which I've since inherited. I was a
new teacher in a 4th grade classroom at Rock Lake Elementary School.
Jupiter 3 relieved a great deal of stress I was feeling from being a
neophyte teacher. We began experimenting in the Winter months, using
Cakewalk and Rebirth (We've since changed to Cubase, but I still use
Win 98.) We would spend weekends listening to vinyl (mostly 80's New
Wave stuff like Duran Duran and INXS) and learned to use his digital
studio. We chose the name Jupiter 3 as an homage to "2001: A Space
Odyssey," and the Roland Jupiter synthesizer series. We began with
the song "IO." We completed 5 recordings in Cakewalk by Winter
2000. Coincidentally, the total track time of the CD was 20:01.
